"Bonjour, zdravo, pershendetje and hallo,

My name is Jannik Hauke and I was one among 30 other participants from Tetovo, Frankfurt, Berlin, Marseille, Mahrzahn, Patin, Mainz to be a part of an international project called ‘football without boarders’. ‘Une Terre Culturelle’  from Marseille, ‘Jugendzentrum Betonia’ from Berlin and the ‘Center for balkan cooperation LOJA’  from Tetovo organized 5 days of football in Macedonia supported by the German Embassy.

Unlike me, most participants knew how to play football, but this project was not about becoming a professional. It was about football as a language that unifies us, makes us spent time together. It worked out very well, I still cannot understand how the majority of the group was able to keep still playing together at 3 in the morning after hours and hours of football. To give an example: After breakfast and evaluation of the day, we played football for 2 hours before we ate lunch. Some have been already exhausted of those two hours but after we realized that we will have a 4-hours-tournament with 6 teams, including a team of German Embassy and a team of our teamers and trainers.

Some were scared that language or age barriers keep us from becoming a team, but somehow we could manage to create a team spirit, which included amateurs and professionals with their abilities and characters.

However, this project offered a lot more opportunities. Many people traveled to another country for the first time. Due to workshops like ‘football-fans’, ‘children and football’, ‘the role of football in Tetovo’ and ‘abandoned football places’ we learned a lot about the influence of football in Tetovo.

The last day was highlighted by a final match in Skopje, followed by a debate with a professor from France in the building of the football federation of Macedonia. The whole project was recorded by two French filmmakers, so you can also see how we celebrated the champions- league match or the karaoke-party and much more…."
